Food Bank collection

In Teignbridge we have 22% of children living in poverty. Where there is child poverty there are also adults who are struggling to make ends meet. We believe it is a hideous injustice that in the world's 5th largest economy over a million people per year are forced to use food banks due to a social security system that is failing them, unstable jobs and a host of other reasons that have led to people going hungry.

Newton Abbot Branch Labour Party will be collecting donations for Teignbridge Homeless Action Today (THAT) food bank based in Buckland and HITS based in central Newton Abbot.

Both have stated that in consideration of the time of year that it would be brilliant if items such as Mince Pies, Cakes, Chocolates, Puddings were donated in order to bring a little festive cheer to the many people in our community who are facing a bleak and hungry festive season.

Other items welcome include any food items that can be stored for a period of time, long life fruit juice, squash, tea, coffee, bedding and towels.

The collection point will be Roy Freer at the Market Gate in Newton Abbot. However, if you are willing to make a donation but cannot make it to the collection point please do not hesitate to contact us and we will see if any alternative arrangements can be made.

For those of you who are willing to donate either your time or money please visit THAT Food Bank's  and HITS' website for more information.
