About

Welcome to the Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton branch Labour Party web site.

During and after the recent 2015 election of the new Labour Leader and Deputy Leader - Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson - there have been a record number of new members joining the Labour Party. This, of course, has resulted in many new members joining the Newton Abbot branch of the Labour Party. It is a very exciting time. Across the country people have had enough of Tory policies and people everywhere are ready to take on the challenge to help the Labour Party work towards a better future for everyone. New members are very welcome. We need you. You can make a difference.

Just to put us into context - the Newton Abbot Labour Party is a branch of the Newton Abbot Constituency.

Before the 2010 election the Newton Abbot Constituency was known as the Teignbridge Constituency Labour Party. Our local party candidate Roy Freer fought the General Election in May 2015 and we are pleased to say that we increased our share of the vote. And now is the time to build upon that success, in view of the strong public backing for the new national movement against austerity, welfare and budget cuts.

The constituency  Labour Party is entirely within the district of Teignbridge and it is divided into three branches:-

  • Newton Abbot

  • Teignmouth

  • Dawlish

The electoral wards covered by the three branches under the CLP are as follows:-

  • Newton Abbot Branch: - Ambrook, Bradley, Buckland & Milber,¬† Bushell College, Ipplepen, Kerswell with Combe, Kingsteignton East & Kingsteignton West.

  • Teignmouth Branch: - Bishopsteignton, Shaldon, Stokeinteignhead, Teignmouth Central, Teignmouth East & Teignmouth West

  • Dawlish Branch - Dawlish Central and North East, Dawlish South West, Kenton with Starcross

Monthly meetings are to be held on the 4th Thursday evening of the month. As we are in our infancy as a branch venues may change so please keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and events page. All members are welcome to attend and encouraged to share their ideas and contribute fully to these discussions. We are open to suggestions and improvements to take our Party forward and to reach out to people in our community and to bring them a different way of running the country - a way that will help the majority not the minority

We are passionate about building a party that promotes social justice and equality within a more inclusive and fairer community. We also seek to build a strong voice for our town and represent the voiceless in the face of Conservative policies that segregate, alienate and scapegoat some of the most vulnerable members of our society. If you are passionate about these ideals too then we'd love to hear from you!
